Black Belt Challenge
This program is optional, but strongly recommended, and will teach us a lot about ourselves and what it means to be a Black Belt. We are challenging our Black Belts to become stronger over this next year, in and out of the dojang.
This is a 12-month challenge. Keep a log and/or journal of your training.
On the physical side:
25,000 (juniors)/40,000 (adults) Push-ups and Crunches. That's just 70/day (juniors) and 110/day (15 and up). Teaching us that little things add up to huge accomplishments.
750 Repetitions of any single form. That's slightly over 2 times per day. You will discover something new about the form and your technique every successive repetition, even if you choose 4-Directional Attack.
220 Rounds of Sparring. That's slightly over 4 rounds per week. Put yourself to the test. None of us can afford to become lazy, or "paper", Black Belts.
400 mile walk/run/swim and/or bike. That's just over 1 mile per day. Not all of us enjoy doing cardio work, me included, but we need to strengthen our hearts.
On the social side:
15 Acts of Community Service. Performed together as a team of Lakeway TaeKwonDo Black Belts.
Diabetes Education Course. www.defeatdiabetes.org
Anger Management Course. www.angercoachonline.com
On the mental/spiritual side:
Meditate every day. Take a few minutes to focus on yourself. Be still.
The Challenge will not be easy or simple. The goals are aggressive. We may not succeed in all of these tasks, but there is no quitting either. Besides the Anger Management Course, none of the aspects of this Challenge cost anything besides time, energy and determination.
This challenge is an abbreviated version of the Ultimate Black Belt Test as created by Tom Callos.
